Our Fruits have International Roots

Our Fruits have International Roots

Just like co-founders, Aline and Deena, Kooky’s selection of fruit have truly international roots.  ​     While the product range is specially sourced in Thailand, they actually have global origins. Jackfruit is native to South India while dragon fruit is borne of the cactus plant and is originally from Mexico and Central America. Many botanists believe the mangosteen had its origins in Malaysia or Indonesia. Bananas and mangoes probably need no introduction and different varieties, with varied taste profiles, can now be sourced from many countries, ranging from Spain to Africa!

When testing our products on friends and family, we soon realised that kids were some of our biggest fans. Many of the younger ones were incredulous that they were actually eating fruit. ‘But it’s like a chip!’ ‘It fizzes on my tongue!’ ‘How can this be chewy and crunchy at the same time?’ As mums who were often greeted by ravenous pre-tweens after school, we were merely looking to incorporate some variety in their snacking habits. Our daughters and their friends suddenly preferred the deep chew of dried banana to a gummy bear, and chose the airy crunch of freeze dried mangosteen over a clawingly sweet meringue. But it was perhaps when my son actually chose a dried dragon fruit...
